Don Bosco Primary School, Matunga celebrated Mind and Heart Well-Being Day on 19th October, 2026, with the objective of helping students understand the importance of emotional well-being, mindfulness, self-confidence and kindness. The programme was thoughtfully planned to provide children with opportunities to recognise their feelings, express themselves freely, develop positive habits and learn simple ways to take care of their minds and hearts.

The celebration included a Feelings Song(based on different emotions), an informative and interactive PowerPoint presentation, mindfulness, storytelling, creative classroom activities and worksheets. Each activity was designed to make learning about emotional well-being enjoyable, meaningful and suitable for the students’ age groups.

The creative classroom activities provided students with opportunities to explore emotional well-being through creativity, self-expression and reflection. The activities were age appropriate.

The students of Std. I participated in the My Happy Heart activity. Each child received a paper heart and was invited to complete the thought, “What kind thing can you do for someone today?” The children shared ideas such as helping a friend, sharing with others and using kind words. The activity encouraged them to understand how small acts of kindness can bring happiness to others and create a caring classroom environment.

The students of Std. II participated in the Happy Jar activity, where they reflected on the little things that make them happy. They learnt to appreciate joyful moments, express gratitude and focus on positive experiences in their everyday lives. The activity encouraged children to recognise happiness in simple things, such as spending time with family, playing with friends, learning something new or helping someone.

The students of Std. III participated in five creative craft activities focusing on emotional awareness, positive thinking, kindness and healthy habits. Through My Feelings Rainbow, students created colourful rainbows in which each colour represented an emotion they experienced. They wrote something that made them feel happy, calm, loved or proud. This activity helped them recognise and express their emotions.

The students of Std. IV participated in four meaningful activities that focused on emotional awareness, self-confidence, positive thinking and kindness. Through My Calm-Mind Spinner, students created colourful paper spinners featuring calming strategies such as taking three deep breaths, counting to ten, thinking of something happy, talking to someone, stretching and taking a quiet break. They decorated and assembled their spinners to take home as their own calming tools.

Worksheets were also used to reinforce the concepts introduced through the song, PowerPoint presentation and classroom activities. The children were encouraged to think about their emotions, identify things that made them happy and reflect on positive actions they could take in their daily lives. Through writing, drawing and simple responses, students expressed their thoughts and practised recognising emotions, appreciating positive experiences, identifying helpful actions and understanding the importance of kindness and self-care.

The programme encouraged students to share their thoughts about the day and what they had learnt. Tian Khambata of Std IV A shared, “I enjoyed making the Calm-Mind Spinner. I learnt that I can take deep breaths, count to ten or take a quiet break when I need to feel calm. I will keep my spinner at home and use it whenever I need it.” Another student, Troy Shetty from Std I B expressed “I loved making the Happy Heart cutout and writing kind things on my heart. I learnt that even small things, like helping a friend or sharing, can make someone happy. I want to be kind to everyone in my class.”

Mind and Heart Well-Being Day was a meaningful and enriching experience for the students of Don Bosco Primary School, Matunga. The combination of music, a colourful PowerPoint presentation, mindfulness, storytelling, creative activities and worksheets made emotional well-being an engaging part of classroom learning.

The celebration encouraged children to recognise their emotions, appreciate their strengths, practise calming strategies, develop self-confidence and show empathy towards others. The creative activities helped students understand the importance of kindness, gratitude, positive thinking and healthy daily habits. The programme also reinforced the importance of speaking to trusted adults whenever they need help or support.

The day served as a reminder that nurturing emotional well-being from an early age helps children develop healthier relationships, a positive outlook and the confidence to face everyday challenges.
