A Day Beyond the Screen

Don Bosco Primary School observed Screen-Free Fun Day on 1st September 2026 for the students of Std. I to IV. The initiative was a refreshing invitation for children to step away from screens and rediscover the simple joys of creating, reading, playing, sharing and learning together. The day focused on nurturing creativity, meaningful interaction, teamwork and joyful learning through experiences that engaged both the mind and the hands.

Creativity Takes Centre Stage

The school corridors and classrooms came alive with a lively mix of activities. Students enthusiastically participated in origami and paper-folding, creative paper crafts, reading and language challenges, the Math Treasure Hunt, singing, games, worksheets and interactive discussions. Through the creation of useful items from colourful paper, the children transformed ordinary materials into expressions of imagination and creativity, while also strengthening their fine-motor skills. “Creativity is intelligence having fun.”- Albert Einstein

Learning Through Play and Discovery

The Mystery Bag Challenge, reading activities and mathematical games added an element of curiosity and excitement to the day. Instead of learning through a screen, students learnt by doing - exploring ideas, solving problems, communicating with one another and working collaboratively.

The hands-on experiences made learning interactive and enjoyable, while quietly reinforcing the importance of finding a healthy balance between screen time and real-world experiences.

Little Voices, Big Reflections

The children's responses captured the spirit of the celebration beautifully. Sharing his experience, Mst. Vihas Nadar said, “I enjoyed the action song and paper folding activity. We had a good day without using screens.”

Ethan D'Souza also shared, “My mum and teacher told me too much screen time is not good for our eyes. I had a great day without it and enjoyed all the activities in class.”

A Joyful Reminder

The day was filled with laughter, discovery and enthusiastic participation, making Screen-Free Fun Day a meaningful and memorable experience for the students. More than simply putting screens aside, the celebration reminded children that there is a vibrant world to discover through books, conversations, creativity, games and friendships.

Screen-Free Fun Day was a wonderful reminder that learning does not always need a screen to be engaging. When children explore, create, communicate and play together, learning becomes an experience to remember.
