English Elocution Competition

The ability to express one’s thoughts with clarity, confidence and grace is a powerful skill that can leave a lasting impression. Public speaking not only enhances communication skills but also nurtures confidence, creativity and the courage to express oneself. Keeping this in mind, an English Elocution Competition for Std. III and IV was held on 22nd September 2026 at Fr. Joseph Casti Hall, Primary Section, with the aim of fostering effective communication and encouraging our young Boscoites to discover the power of their voice.

To ensure that every child had an opportunity to participate, all students were encouraged to take part in the competition. Following the preliminary rounds conducted in their respective classes, twelve finalists from each standard were selected to compete in the final round. The young participants stepped onto the stage with confidence and enthusiasm, presenting their poems with remarkable poise and preparation.

The competition was organized under the guidance of Mrs. Jessiya Sekhar and Mrs. Kashmira Rodrigues. The eminent judges—Mrs. Sandra D’Souza, Mrs. Janet D’Cruz and Mrs. Celine Miranda—were warmly welcomed and introduced to the audience.

The finalists were assessed on various aspects of elocution, including their choice of poem, memorization, facial expressions, clarity of speech, pronunciation, voice modulation and overall presentation. The participants had selected a diverse range of poems, making each performance unique and turning the competition into a delightful literary experience for everyone present.

As the final participant concluded his recital, the judges were presented with a small token of appreciation in gratitude for generously sharing their valuable time and expertise. They were then invited to address the young participants and offer words of encouragement and guidance.

Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Celine Miranda appreciated the efforts of both the students and teachers, remarking, “The poems chosen by the participants were varied and enjoyable. I commend the efforts taken by the students and teachers for this competition.” Her encouraging words served as a reminder that every performance is an opportunity to learn, grow and become a more confident speaker.

The anticipation reached its peak as the Head Teacher, Mrs. Griselda Fernandes, announced the winners amidst enthusiastic applause. The deserving winners were:

 Addressing the students, she explained the essence of elocution, stating, “What is elocution? It is the skill of clear and expressive speech, especially of distinct pronunciation and articulation. Elocution is the art of speaking.”

Her words aptly captured the spirit of the competition. The event was not merely about winning a prize; it was about learning to communicate with confidence, express ideas effectively and overcome the hesitation that often accompanies public speaking.

The confidence, expression, preparation and talent displayed by the young Boscoites made the English Elocution Competition a memorable and enriching experience. It provided the students with a valuable platform to find their voice, appreciate the beauty of language and take a confident step towards becoming effective communicators.

The competition concluded with the declaration of the winners and a heartfelt vote of thanks to the judges for their valuable presence, encouragement and contribution to making the event a meaningful success.
