Honouring St. Don Bosco: Celebrating the Father and Friend of Youth
“Give me souls, take away the rest.”
At Don Bosco High School, the decoration of the statue of St. Don Bosco is a cherished tradition filled with gratitude, reverence, and joy. This special occasion reflects the school’s deep respect for its patron saint and reaffirms its commitment to the values he lived and taught—love, kindness, discipline, and service to the young. Preparations for decorating the statue begin well in advance, with teachers, students, and parents of Std III & IV working together in a spirit of co-operation. Flowers, garlands, and lights are carefully chosen to honour St. Don Bosco’s life and mission. Bright and vibrant flowers symbolize his joy-filled spirit, white flowers reflect his purity of heart, and yellow or gold accents represent hope, wisdom, and faith. These decorations are thoughtfully arranged around the statue, creating a dignified and welcoming display. As the day approaches, enthusiasm grows among students and staff. The statue, placed prominently within the school premises, becomes a focal point of admiration, prayer, and reflection. Drapes in meaningful colours and soft lighting enhance the statue’s presence, while candles placed nearby symbolize the light of guidance and faith that St. Don Bosco continues to offer to the young. The decoration ceremony is accompanied by special prayers and reflections on the life and teachings of St. Don Bosco. During Religion classes and prayer services, students are encouraged to seek his intercession and to follow his example of compassion, patience, and dedication. These moments help strengthen the students’ spiritual connection and inspire them to walk the path of righteousness. As the entire school community gathers to honour St. Don Bosco, they renew their commitment to live by his motto and values. The beautifully decorated statue stands as a powerful reminder of his enduring presence in the school and his loving guidance. Through this celebration, students are encouraged to grow into responsible, caring individuals who embody kindness, respect, and service in their daily lives.
