14th of November is the birthday of Chacha Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India and is celebrated as Children’s day. In our school we celebrated the same on 15th November, 2011 Tuesday. Children were asked to wear coloured clothes and come to school. Teachers had decorated their classrooms with pictures of Chacha Nehru and his favourite flower, the rose. Teachers discussed about Chacha Nehru, how he used to like children and that’s why his birthday is celebrated as Children’s day.
It was a fun time for all. In one of the classes a group activity of thump printing on the rose flower was done. In another, children played a relay race holding a rose flower and the group which won was given a pencil and eraser by the teacher. In one, class teacher had asked each child to get a small photo of Chacha Nehru which was struck by the teacher on the child’s worksheet and the children were asked to colour the rose flower. One of the teachers had also made a book mark with the child’s name written on it which the child took home. Children also played few games in the class like Basketball, Simon says, duck and goose, walking with a balloon between their legs and bursting it.
Children enjoyed playing the games for the full day and all the children were given kit-kat by the school as a token gift.

Children came in coloured dress with all the excitement to enjoy and celebrate this day. Teachers equally planned and organized beautiful fun games for the children to make them feel special and happy.
Class boards were decorated and Chacha Nehru’s photograph was displayed. Sr. K G Cultural Day
The Sr. K. G. Cultural Day was held on 15th October, 2011 at 10.30 a.m. in the Primary School Hall. Our Chief Guest was Rev. Fr. Jude D’ Mello. He was accompanied by our Principal Rev. Fr. Bosco D’ Mello and our vice-principal and administrator Fr. Derrick Misquitta, the head teacher of the primary Section – Ms. Winifred and our pre-primary supervisor – Ms. Shoba D’souza. Ou guest lit the lamp as all gathered raised their minds in silent prayer. Palansha Rao welcomed all with his welcome speech. Our guests were presented with baskets of flowers as a token of appreciation by our Sr. K.G. boys.
As the curtains opened the boys began with the welcome song specially to their mums and dads, Fathers and teachers. Denver Dias recited the poem “Mom, no school”. Next was the prayer dance. Our star singers sang “He’s got the whole world in his hands”, while others enacted each verse sung. We then had Smit Shah reciting the poem “The hunter’s aim”. Fr. Rector was then invited to speak to our parents and he explained to them our theme – Helping hands.
Then the curtains opened with the main skit “Helping one another”. We had letters of the alphabet from A to Z. Each boy dressed up as a letter and together singing the song of how when the letters are united they form a family. These letters help in forming words and these words form sentences. This was displayed when for eg. Letter B, A, and G came together to form the word BAG. And words like I LOVE U cane together to form a sentence. The narrator introduced the 2 characters- Ram who was lame and Shyam who was blind. But they both wanted to go to the fair. They decided to help one another. Shyam carried Ram on his shoulder and Ram showed Shyam the way. They both reached the fair. The fair scene had a clown moving about and balloon sellers. The Hindi song ‘Senorita’ was played. And boys, some dressed as girls depicted a Spanish dance which was applauded by the audience. The narrators introduced Zelda, the zebra who had lost her stripes and is told to search for her stripes in the land of colours. Now we had an action song based on colours. We had 5 colours displayed by the boys dressed up in each colour. Each verse of the song was dedicated to one colour and boys of that colour came out from their semi-circle placement and did actions according to the song. After that the colours danced around. After this, Zelda’s stripes were found near Mr. Shah’s house. Now we are drawn to the scene happening in Mr. Shah’s house where they are helping in the marriage of their maid’s daughter. As the bride and groom exchange garlands and are showered with flowers. Now, begins the Hindi wedding song “Tenu leke”. Dressed in grand sherwanis and colourful shararas, they danced at the wedding reception of the bride and the groom. The skit ended in the words “helping hands and a loving heart can heal many wounds and touch our hearts and end up healing the world. The finale song was “Heal the world” where all the children were seen waving their hands and swaying to the music of the song.
Our Principal Fr. Bosco D’ Mello was invited to speak. He began by inviting the parents to participate in the action song “When you’re happy and you know it”. It was indeed very good to see the parents of these wonderful children clapping and singing along this action song. He appreciated the effort and hard work of the teachers and children. The Sr. K G teachers were called on stage and applauded for their work.
We then had Amey Bauchkar saluting the teachers in the poem “Why God made teachers”. After that Mohammad Hajwani gave the vote of thanks. This immense show put up by the SR.KG boys wouldn’t be complete before the boys bid everyone farewell with the Farewell Song. The compares of the day – Somesh Shetty, Vignesh Shetty, Sean Fernandes and Pehzan Motafram signed off for the day wishing good wishes to all.
The boys indeed performed their best which wouldn’t be possible without the cooperation of their parents. This grand event was indeed a success.

Vegetable Day
colour, taste, shape and season of availability were also discussed.Fruit Day (Jr. K.G.)
The Junior K. G. celebrated fruit day on 12th October, 2011. Parents were informed well in advance to send fruit salad only as snacks in their child’s snack box. The children had just learnt about fruits in class, about the importance of eating fruits, etc. Different teachers had different activities in class on this day. Some teachers asked children to talk about the fruits they had brought in their snack box. Some gave cut-outs of fruits for children to colour and glaze paper to stick on it. One teacher asked children to stick fruit stickers on a chart and then cut the shape of the fruit. Another teacher brought real fruits and then asked children to pick out the picture card of the same fruit. The children ate their fruit salad quite enthusiastically though some insisted they would not because apparently, fruits were “ Sirf dekhne ke liye” and not “ khane ke liye”
Hopefully, the children will learn the importance of eating fruits while still young !
