Dance Competition :

January 9th, 2012 : A Dance Competition was held for the students of Std. II after a preliminary performance. The students who danced to songs of their choice were judged on their presentation, steps and style.Bollywood songs and dances were popular at this competition.

Christmas Field Trip :

January 4th, 2012 : The students of Std. I – IV were taken on a field trip to the Shrine of Don Bosco`s Madonna to see the crib set up for Christmas. The students were spell bound by the beauty of this place and stood mesmerised by the almost life-size figures in the crib.They related well to the figures in the crib as they have already witnessed the nativity enacted just before the Christmas vacation.

Choral Recitation Competition

December, 14, 2011 : To imbibe in the students the values of care n share Christmas was the theme of the choral recitation competition of Std. III and IV.The students of each of these classes recited in one voice Christmas poems and were judged for choice of poem, presentation, expressions and discipline.Std. III A and IV A were the winners.

Fancy dress Competition

December, 17, 2011 : As a part of the Christmas Week celebrations the students of Std. II took part in a Fancy dress Competition with Christmas as the theme.They came dressed as Santas, Christmas trees, candles, bells , stockings, sheep ,shepherds and many more making the whole atmosphere very festive. The costumes were a treat to the eyes and the best use of waste had been made to create them. The winners were awarded certificates.

Christmas Symposium

December 20, 2011 : The students of Std. I to IV assembled in the Primary Hall for the Christmas symposium. To the merry tune of Christmas songs and carols the students danced. The Nativity was staged to depict the birth of Christ in drama, dance and song. Santa Claus came at the end to surprise our little ones.Thanks to the thoughtfulness and generosity of our past pupils the students got gifts and sweets an unforgettable moment.

Sports Festival  

December 2,2011 - Sports Day is an important event in every school. What makes it unique here in the Primary section of  Don Bosco Matunga is that each and every child gets a chance to participate in the events of the day as an individual and as a team.` Helping Hands Are Rewarded` was the theme of this year`s sports festival. The festival got underway after the torch bearer lit the flames of the games and the Rector Rev. Fr. Jude D`mello hoisted the school flag to the singing of the School Anthem. The Sportsman`s Prayer and Oath were taken and colourful drill displays were put up by the students. There were individual and group events and races for the parents of the students. Certificates and medals were awarded to the winners and Std. IC, IIA, IIIA and IVA won trophies for the best performance of the day.The day came to a close with the lowering of the school flag. The students learnt a valuable lesson in teamwork and sportsmanship thanks to the school management , teaching and non-teaching staff who left no stone unturned in making this day a grand success.

Education Day :

November,11,2011: In remembrance of the efforts made by the first Education minister of free India, Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad , on his birth anniversary, Education Day was observed in the primary section. The teachers, in their respective classrooms spoke to the students about this great leader and his work in the field of education.Rev Fr. Jude D`mello ,the Rector of the school read out a letter from the Prime Minister of India on this day which highlighted the importance of education in our country.

Children`s Day :

November, 15, 2011 : Children`s Day is celebrated in the Primary Section in a way that will always be remembered by our students. The classrooms were decorated with lovely pictures to welcome the children.The day began with an invocational prayer read out by the Head teacher in which she sought God`s blessings for our students  and all those who are responsible for their well-being. She also prayed for the less fortunate children and urged our young ones to try and make another child happy. Our students were told about Pandit  Jawaharlal Nehru and his love for children.The past pupils had organised a magic show which held our students spell-bound. Games were organised by the teachers and chocolates were distributed by the  management. The children had a lot of fun.

Diwali Celebration

21 October, 2011: The Diwali celebrations are no ordinary event in the Primary section of Don Bosco. The classrooms bore a festive look with traditional torans, colourful rangolis and bright diyas. The children came dressed in their best. Stories on Diwali were narrated, songs were sung, diyas were decorated, rangolis were drawn and games were played. Safety while handling fire crackers was emphasised. The students relished their snacks and Diwali sweets.They promised to be thoughtful to the aged and the less fortunate this Diwali.

Rangoli Competition

October 4, 2011 The students of Std. I ushered in the festive season with beautiful rangolis which they made using flowers of different varieties. The bright marigolds, delicate roses, the fragrant tube roses looked splendid in their creations. The rangolis were a treat to the eyes.

Dental Day

October 3, 2011 Std. III learnt that oral hygiene is very essential for good health. Dr. Mrs. Sharmila Shinde, a dentist was invited to enlighten our students about the importance of oral hygiene. Dr. Shinde presented a powerpoint on the correct techniques of brushing and answered all the students` queries. It was a healthy interaction.

Paper Folding Competition Std. II

On October 1, 2011 all the students of Std. II participated in a Paper Folding Competition. They neatly folded two squares of paper and created beautiful flowers, exotic birds and enchanting sea creatures besides many other things. They gave their creations a colourful background with their crayons. Their creations could easily give the inventors of Origami a run for their money.

Cultural Day Std. I

On October 1, 2011 the students of Std. I lived up to the theme of their Cultural day `Helping Hands Create a Beautiful , Wonderful World`.Through well directed scripts, choreographed dances and melodious songs they expressed their love and concern for our Community Helpers and the world at large. The students had dressed up in a variety of costumes and the stage was a hue of colours. The little ones spoke confidently .This day was appreciated by all present.

Safety Week

30 September, 2011 - October 5, 2011 Std. I- IV observed Safety Week. The students were told the importance of safety at home, in school, on the playground, on the road and during Diwali. In the classrooms pictures related to safety were displayed. The students participated in class discussions, drew and coloured road signs, solved worksheets and learnt songs and poems on safety.

Cultural Days ( Std. II, III, IV)

The theme for all the activities this year is HELPING HANDS. This is a tribute to Don Bosco our patron saint whose relic visited us. This theme was beautifully depicted through songs, dances and one act plays in the Cultural Days of the Primary section.
On 10th September, 2011 Std. II gave out the message `Helping Hands Change the World` Std. III reached out with ` Helping Hands – Together We Can` on 17th September, 2011 and Std IV showed that `Helping Hands Can Create Heaven On Earth on 24th September, 2011.These Cultural Days provide a platform to each and every student in class to perform on stage with the guidance of his teacher.

Field Trip To The Fire Station - Std. III

As a part of the Safety Week celebrations in school Std. III visited the Fire Station on 29th September, 2011.The students realised the hazardous life of the firemen, the great service done by them for the community and also witnessed a fire drill. They got a chance to interact with the fire department personnel.

Nehru Science Centre - Field Trip - (Std.II)

On 22nd September, 2011 the students of Std. II visited the Nehru Science Centre. ` Seeing is Believing` is a popular adage and the lessons learnt in class unfolded before the children. E.V.S. topics such as Our Surroundings, Our Sense Organs, Food etc. became more concrete as an outcome of this field trip.

Clay Modelling Competition - (Std. III)

On 7th September, 2011 the students of Std.III moulded clay to create a village scene. The beautifully sculpted scenes looked authentic. This topic was chosen to co-relate it with Social studies.

  Drawing Competition (Std. I – IV)

On 6th September, 2011: A drawing competition was held for the students in their respective classrooms. All the students participated in this competition and drew beautifully the topics given to them. Winners were chosen from each class.

Teachers Day - (Std. I – IV )

5th September, 2011: was celebrated in the Primary Section with great pomp and show. The class representatives with the parents of the different classes made this day very special for their respective teachers. The classrooms were beautifully decorated and the students were trained to perform for their teachers. The teachers were made to feel very special - a gesture they appreciated.

Let’s Take Shelter Day – Std II

August 26, 2011:
       ‘It really doesn’t matter at all
       Whether your house is big or small
        As long as there’s room for laughter and fun
        Your house can be a happy one.’
The students learnt this through songs and stories. They made beautiful models of houses using paper, boxes, clay, sticks, straws etc. They realised from the discussions in class that shelter is really our basic need.

Field Trip (Nehru Planetarium) Std IV

 August 25, 2011 the students of Std IV went on a field trip to Nehru Planetarium. They watched a show on ‘ Stars and Planets’ which reinforced facts about our Solar system which they had learned about on Solar Day. Feedback on this trip was taken on worksheets given to the students. This field trip proved that Learning is indeed fun here at Don Boscos.

Solar Day – Std IV

August  22, 2011 The Sun, the source of light and heat to us was the focus of all activities planned for the day. Through word games the teachers taught their students important Sun facts , about our Solar system and spoke about Solar energy as an important source of energy in modern times.    

Monsoon Week - (Std I - IV)

August 1, 2011 The fact that rain is the main source of water on earth was highlighted in this week. The classrooms and corridors were decorated with pictures on rain creatures, rain wear, water- cycle and rainbows. Through activities in the Art and Craft periods, the teachers explained the importance of rain. Discussions were held to seek the opinions of the students about their likes and dislikes concerning rain.

Clay Modelling Competition - Std II

July 27, 2011 : The young sculptors moulded the clay and made very real looking vegetables and fruits.  The idea behind choosing this as a topic was to encourage children to eat the healthy food and to co-relate it with their environmental studies topic on food.

Parents Day - Std I to IV

July 26, 2011: Parents day was celebrated in the Primary Section of Don Bosco with gusto.  The Class representatives of each class were invited for this occasion.  After a short   ceremony on the intercom, each class wished their parents well and took back home their own creations. Small tokens of love such as cards, short prayers and bookmarks given on this occasion aimed at strengthening family ties.

Installation of Monitors - Std I - IV

July 15, 2011:   Std III & IV held their investiture ceremony with ‘A Dream that is in our Hearts’ as their theme.  Rev. Fr. Principal invested the Captain and the Vice Captain.   The Vice Principal invested the monitors of Std III & IV in a solemn ceremony.  Through a song the leaders expressed a dream that they envisioned for their school in trying to make it a better place.

July 22, 2011 Std I & II chose ’Be a cheerful Leader’ as their theme for their investiture ceremony The leaders promised to be the ‘Helping Hands’ of 2011-2012. The teachers work hard to infuse leadership qualities in the young ones at Don Bosco.

Craft competition Std III

July 25, 2011 The students of Std IV displayed their skills in making attractive pen stand using old cans. They were allowed to use any kind of paper to create their designs.   It was a tough competition.

July 29, 2011 To encourage the children to make the Best of Waste’ the topic chosen for the Craft Competitions of Std III  was make box puppets using old cardboard boxes (toothpaste, detergent, soap etc) and any kind of paper only. The students used their creative talents and become puppeteers for this day.  It was tough judging this competition.

Corny Day - Std II

July 8 2011: The students of Std II celebrated Corny Day. The teachers made the students aware of the nutritional value of corn, the countries where corn is the main crop and some products that are made from it. During the recess the students enjoyed a healthy corn salad.

I am Special Day(Std I)

Std I observed 'I am special day' on 21.6.11 to make the students learn in a fun way the importance of personal health and hygiene. Play-way was blended perfectly with regular academics when the students learnt to write and decorate their names and made heart pin-ups for themselves.

Knowing Myself Day (Std II)

Std II observed 27.6.11 as 'Knowing Myself Day' These days were a tribute to one's self. Each one of us has our own identity and is God's special creation - this was drilled into the students. It is important to take care of our selves well.

Courtesy Week (20th - 25th June)

In an attempt to make our very young Boscoites gentlemen 'Courtesy Week' was observed by the Primary section of Don Bosco, Matunga from 20.6.11 to 25.6.11. The importance of being well mannered wherever you may be was emphasised through talks, discussions, pictures, stories, worksheets, songs and poems. Every nook and corner of the Primary Section building bore signs of 'Courtesy' to instill in our students the habit of being courteous.
